Attending the Smile Jamaica, Africa Unite Youth Symposium was one of the most powerful experiences of my life. Coming from Toronto, I was eager to hear perspectives from my brothers and sisters living in a not so distant land, and the passion for a better world from all those attending cemented the visions and work I do in Toronto and inspired me to push even harder with my efforts. Having been to many conference, I can say that this was one of the best facilitated, everything ran very smoothly and the guest speakers were profound and their words resonated with urgency for youth to take action. The programming was cornerstone to the success, giving the youth not only words of wisdom and opportunity to share their thoughts, but also being given the opportunity to experience first hand the power of the Honourable Nesta Robert Marley and his movements, by attending his birthday ceremony, getting a glimpse into his life through the museum visit and visiting the community he was born in and is now buried. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to attend this one of a kind symposium and will continue to speak about it everywhere I go, hoping that the running themes of it can be carried with my voice and we can continue to walk together in solidarity.
